Letters

I recently wrote a letter to my body on the "embody" blog I contribute to. A friend who suffered from an eating disorder and recovered, said this is a major tool in helping to appreciate yourself for who you are, and what you can do. While I didn't suffer from an eating disorder, at one point in my life I was really hurting myself with my powerfully destructive thoughts. I wrote a letter a long time ago when I was taking care of my problems and becoming stronger. Today I decided to write another one.

Here is the link to the posted letter on the blog. Read up and let me know what you think! Also, it never hurts to write one for yourself, even if you AREN'T miserable. Who doesn't love being told how awesome they are, and if you can tell yourself, you're definitely going to be happy!

Butterfly Effect

Monday, June 4, 2012

I watched a movie tonight while cleaning that I recently bought after coming across it on Netflix. Chaos Theory is a movie based on just what it's called. The idea that something tiny can cause larger effects later. For example the butterfly in Africa flapping its wings, and causing a hurricane a week later in the Gulf of Mexico.

There's a particular scene of this movie, where a man is describing his marriage's life story to his soon to be son-in-law. His final monologue always gets me... it's about how we choose to give and receive love. The whole story of the movie is based off this idea, and the chaos theory, and that our best relationships in life aren't those that flow perfectly, they are those that we choose to love, even when we'd rather cut them off and refuse to forgive.

It's not one of Ryan Reynolds's mainstream roles, but it has become one of my favorite movies. Here's a "Crazy Lana Moment" for you--I always cry at the end, and it's not even sad. I'm not even ashamed to admit it. I think I just get teary because real love is just that. Despite all of the things we try to do right as humans, we're going to really unintentionally, (or intentionally) hurt those that we love, and at some point they will have to forgive us for that if we are to continue together. And at some point, we're going to have to forgive them for something they have done that really hurt us. (Obviously I mean aside from abuse.)

Also, Ryan Reynolds is hot, even with a receding, greying hairline. He does a great job in this movie.

Here's the last scene, (complete with Spanish subtitles! Thanks Youtube... it's the only one I could find that isn't cut off.) Once it's loaded fast forward to 1:00, the monologue lasts for a minute, but the whole scene is good. Most of it won't make sense, but then you'll just have to watch the movie to get it, now won't ya?! Let me know if you've seen it and feel the same, or just tell me what you think of this post!

And just in case you wanted to hear that song again... I really like it, and the lyrics. It's sappy, and mellow, but I like this band's stuff. Enjoy! (...or don't if you choose not to.)

Because sometimes you need a big hug from someone, even if it's just a big, happy bear.

Challenge for you: Hug someone today. Everyone needs a hug everyday. So just find someone and grab 'em.
