A friend just sent me this picture while we were talking about the dating scene in Provo. This picture completely embodies one of my least favorite categories.... the PROVO GUY. Now keep in mind before you start to think I'm complaining, there are lots of nice guys around here. I'm not using this post to play the role of the angry dateless girl. I can't, I went on some nice dates this week!!!) I am using this post to describe this lovely man specimen I call TOOL, to you while it's fresh on my mind.

These are the type that will stroll up to a pretty young girl and with all the arrogance they can muster, try to win her over with his amazing sense of style (tight polo shirts, or a shirt that is tucked in just in the front), their quick wit (usually these jokes include several different uses of the words 'dude' and 'like', and a great reference to a rap song lyric or the latest episode of Rock Of Love).

Also he will impress you with his ability to multitask (talk to you and size up every other little gem of eye candy he sees and text someone else throughout the whole conversation), more than likely your conversation will also be interrupted with several sweet little phrases such as "Hey Heather, I love the way your pants fit today," or "Jessica, I missed you last night." These little phrases show you just how sweet and caring he is, to always be making sure all the other girls in his life are ok too.

Another great thing is, he's such a forward thinker, he'll have you call him, because he's being considerate and not wanting you to waste any time having to say "I'm not free tonight, but I am Wednesday." We are not in the 1950's anymore, girls should totally call guys whenever they want!

Provo Guys are so wonderful, they are the best any girl can find. So please, when you're dating, go for this guy, and not the sweet guy that's invading your space by asking you out in person. That's just SO awkward, who wants someone like that? OMG! HELLO, that is so inconsiderate, what if you want to say no?!

Please examine this labeled picture to make sure you know how to recognize one when you see him. Don't let him out of your sight girls! Do whatever it takes to snare this little hottie. You'll want to click the picture to make it larger. There are labels that you need to see to know what to look for. Happy Tool Shopping! :)

Free RICE!!!

Dear readers of my blog,

I recently was told about a website called Free Rice.com. I was really interested to see if what I was told was true, so I checked it out myself. This website gives each of us with time to burn a way to help feed the starving. Every time you answer a fun trivia question right, you donate 10 grains of rice, and improve your knowledge.

Today alone I donated 2,500 grains just by answering grammar questions, geography questions, french language questions, and others. It actually is a fun way to help donate. Please check it out and see for yourself! The website even has a running total of how much has been donated. If this is legit, which I think it is, it's a really cool way to help! I've pasted the link into my side bar on my blog where all my other links are should you need the link sometime.

Please have fun and help!

Thanks,
Lana

Slumdog Millionaire. My new favorite.

I know I've been posting movie clip after movie clip lately, but I've had good reason. I just watched this movie last night and immediately fell in love with the little actors in it. Not only is Latika's older character ridiculously beautiful, the younger actors of Jamal and Latika are adorable, and fantastic actors. It also is very moving and sad at the same time. I LOVED THIS MOVIE. I'm not going to spoil the plot for those that haven't seen it, but the jist of it is, he's from the slums of India, and goes on India's, "Who Wants to be a Millionaire." Let's just say it's made my favorite's list, and that list is not a very long one!

This particular clip is from the earlier parts of the movie when they're living in the slums. It is also one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

PLEASE... watch the movie when you get a chance. Better yet, make time for it. It's fantastic!

I just finished watching this for the billionth time over the past year or so... I LOVE THIS GROUP. I think this particular song has some awesome lines in it. I'd fall for them if Jermaine showed me his dance moves.

Flight of the Conchords - Most Beautiful Girl

I'm halfway through my semester now. The sun has been out for the whole week and it's been warm! I love the sunshine, it really does help my mood. I think I definitely get the seasonal lows that a lot of people get this time of year. I felt such an energy boost this week. Enough to even drag my butt to the gym! I need to get back into a regular routine, it feels so good to exercise, even though I can't even run half a mile without feeling like my heart has it's own plans to jump out of my body by way of my throat. I'll get back into the swing of things very soon... once I can shake my mini cold #4. I swear everyone is sick. I've been sick so much since January!

I hope I'm not getting what my friend has. She just found out she has pneumonia! Another friend had pneumonia in January. I hope I'm not getting the black lung like they did!

Last night I watched a really weird movie that I ended up loving. It was called The Hudsucker Proxy, here's a clip from the beginning third of the movie. It's pretty weird, and I loved it!

My attempt at photography.

My friend Jordan has a really nice camera and I played with it the other night at his house. Here is my favorite picture that I took.

I liked that the 3 guys were all doing the same thing, and it goes in size succession. Large, Medium, Small. I really am proud of me. It's definitely nothing great compared to some people's skill but I'm excited about it!

Who Baked Alaska?

I know this probably won't make any sense to any of you who don't hang out with me on a regular basis, but sometimes I say things after a long chain of thought that no one understands because I naturally assume they could hear the rapid fire succession of thoughts that just occurred in my brain in around .2 seconds.

Here is an example of what these chains of thought look like. I'll see a book on a table and think "That book is called "Drugs and Modern Behavior" --> I have that class --> some people have no class -->I wear a backpack to class --> backpack! (as in Dora the Explorer - a show I watched randomly when my little brothers were small) --> Dora is from Mexico --> Mexico isn't in the U.S. -->Alaska is in the U.S. --> Baked Alaska!

This actually didn't happen in that exact order but somehow over the past few days I keep thinking of Baked Alaska. I didn't even know what it is, but somehow the words popped into my head and wouldn't leave. I have no idea where I heard this phrase either. I said the phrase to some friends of mine who I'm sure are used to my randomness because they didn't even flinch when such a weird phrase came out of my mouth the other night.

So I'm going to let you all know that I now know what Baked Alaska is. However I had to think for a while. I assumed it was food, but let's get creative. It could be a section of Alaska where most people are high on a regular basis, or... ok that's really the only random thought that I came up with about what it could be.

Here's the wikipedia definition. Honestly, I know you've all been dying to know what it is, and I am so glad to get this out of my brain. I've been wondering what Baked Alaska was for about 7 days now. So here you go, and I'm finally at peace.

Baked Alaska (also known as glace au four, omelette à la norvégienne, Norwegian omelette and omelette surprise) is a dessert made of ice cream placed in a pie dish lined with slices of sponge cake or Christmas pudding and topped with meringue. The entire dessert is then placed in an extremely hot oven for just long enough to firm the meringue. The meringue is an effective insulator, and the short cooking time prevents the heat from getting through to the ice cream.
I have no idea why this was necessary, I only know that now I am not saying Baked Alaska to myself in the car and while I am cleaning my shower. I did that about 5 minutes ago and it was enough to urge me to google it, and then write a blog about it. So there you have it! Now you understand just how random I can be.

Now... who wants to come over this weekend and we can attempt to bake ice cream?

Will you be my Valentine?

This weekend was really fun. I went to the Valentine's date dance Friday with my friend Danny. We had to dress nice and we both looked great! The music was provided by a band of old men who played all sorts of music. We danced the cha cha, the tango, waltzes, and any other kind of dance we made up. (We were creative to make up for our lack of skill!)

Saturday Andrea threw a party at her house for Valentine's day and a friend's birthday. We helped her decorate cupcakes and cookies for the party and then danced the night away! Here are some pictures from the party. Sorry, I don't have any from Friday night.

Update on my 2nd to last semester...

Monday, February 9, 2009

I applied for Graduation today. A bittersweet moment in my life. For some reason I was sad to do it, but ridiculously happy and proud of myself as well. I will be walking in the commencement ceremony May 1 at UVU... IF everything goes as planned. I'll give you the details later when it's more set in stone! I'll then be finishing my last 3 classes of my bachelor's degree during summer semester. I checked and so far, I've got at the very least 5 classes to choose from! SO, to sum up all the blood, sweat, tears, nights hunched over my desk typing papers, AND 5 majors later...it's all coming to it's completion date very soon! You have my permission to give me a big hug next time you see me, I'm hugging myself right now. I'm so proud of me!

The sad part of this is... I don't want to leave now. I've spent nearly 7 years (yes THAT long)saying I can't wait to graduate. All of the sudden I picture myself as this kid holding on to the playground monkey bars because she absolutely doesn't want to leave the park while her mom is tugging at her from the other side. (Strange, I know.)

It's funny how the only future goals I have at the moment include throwing myself a disco party for my 25th birthday (which is in a couple months!), figuring out how to get Lasik eye surgery, travel the world for 6 months, and to buy a pigmy elephant named Stampy, all while paying off my student loans and deciding what the heck I'm going to do with my life! (That last one is not really going to happen, unless you know where I can find a tiny elephant!)

I always assumed I'd feel ready to take on the world, and the only thing I want to do is take myself on a really long trip.

Oh and here's a cool picture of me. I make awesome faces sometimes.

Opposites Attract

I know lately I've been a music junkie and just posting tons of videos, but here's some more! I can't help it that lately my mind is just soaking up new music.

I found this video on youtube randomly and I really enjoyed the music! It's a band called Lovers Electric, song title Could This Be.

This next video is totally opposite in style, but it is by one of my favorite artists of 2008. I bought this concert dvd, and this is the ending credits. She's amazing. Sara Bareilles - Dock of the Bay (Cover)

I can't stop laughing.

I saw this on my friend Nate's blog today and started crying I was laughing so hard. Please enjoy as much as I did!

"I have.....2 fingers...4 fingers!"

We are always running for the thrill of it...

I heard this song at a friend's house the other night, and it is now one that I can't stop listening to. It's a band named Empire of the Sun, song is called Walking On a Dream. Please crank it up loud to get the full effect. Thank you.
