Music Monday - Pompeii

Monday, February 3, 2014

Because, it's a feel good song.

(I don't love the weird video though. It doesn't go with the song.)

I listened to a few of this guy's songs the other night, I LOVE this one and Thing We Lost in the Fire.

Forgiveness Addendum

Monday, March 4, 2013

I should have shared one of my favorite quotes with the "Forgiveness" post. The advice in it is priceless. The quote is pinned on my desk at work, and I need to get a fancy framed copy of it for my home. It is the best advice anyone can ever take.

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I hope we can all remember to forgive ourselves of our blunders and absurdities.

And since I'm on such a positive kick, I'll post my favorite pick me up song.  I've loved it since I was an awkward 17 year old getting knocked around by the emotional torment of high school.  If I ever feel low or like I'm trudging along through the mud pits of life... this song always makes me feel awesome. Of course it must be loud, and must be danced to. That is the only rule.

Living of Love, Avett Brothers

I love this song so much. My neighbor/friend showed me this band last summer. I have loved this song ever since. They are quite talented, and the banjo makes for a more interesting sound. Enjoy.

Where I Stood, Missy Higgins

Sunday, March 15, 2009

I know not very many people know about my deep dark secret that I am shedding light on today. I think it's because I'm afraid people will judge my skills and I'll feel stupid when they realize I'm not a genius at what I'm about to tell you. Here goes...

I love to play the piano, and wish I had one everyday.

There. I said it! Not very many of my friends and family ever get to hear me play. My bishopric has heard me on many occasions plinking away for hours after our church meetings are over. For the longest time I would sneak into a room and stop as soon as someone came in to listen. Lately though I'll leave the door open, or just keep playing when someone peeks in. I think even my best friends have never heard me play.

One thing I wish I could do that I have yet to be able to, is make up songs. I need to read sheet music to play anything because I've forgotten all my chords and theory to be able to just sit down and knock out random music. But I will give myself credit. I can play most things written down. I was given the talent of sight reading. I have lots of sheet music and usually keep my entire sheet music collection in my trunk so I can use it whenever I find a free piano.

The latest idea I've had and I only share this because I want to be comfortable with this instead of hiding it too, is I want to learn how to sing and play at the same time. I don't profess to be a good singer, I don't know if I like my voice, or if anyone else will either. I do know however that I am able to carry a tune fairly well and I am the daughter of a woman whose voice could be mistaken for Karen Carpenter's so maybe there's some talent hidden in there somewhere! But don't ever expect to hear Mariah Carey's high notes come out of me. I'm an alto, and low soprano, and I'm shy. Why am I sharing all this you ask?

Because I'm teaching myself to sing and play the song above. I can't promise I'll ever sound good, and no I won't be adding my rendition of her song to Youtube for all my "fans". I just wanted to tell people so I can't pretend I wasn't given a talent that I'm hiding.

But don't ask me to play in church. Hymns make me sound like I rarely play... for some reason they are excellent at jumbling my fingers and making me mess up, which for me is SUPER embarrassing, and I feel the need to say out loud "sorry", to which then I feel even dumber for feeling the need to apologize for hitting the wrong note. I have no idea why it embarrasses me... it just does.

I have a dream.

A friend sent me this girl's name and said to listen to this song. I was told "TRUST ME"... and trust I did! This song is beautiful. I love her voice, and I love how at the end she layers it. I am now going to go look up more of her.

Opposites Attract

Monday, February 9, 2009

I know lately I've been a music junkie and just posting tons of videos, but here's some more! I can't help it that lately my mind is just soaking up new music.

I found this video on youtube randomly and I really enjoyed the music! It's a band called Lovers Electric, song title Could This Be.

This next video is totally opposite in style, but it is by one of my favorite artists of 2008. I bought this concert dvd, and this is the ending credits. She's amazing. Sara Bareilles - Dock of the Bay (Cover)

We are always running for the thrill of it...

I heard this song at a friend's house the other night, and it is now one that I can't stop listening to. It's a band named Empire of the Sun, song is called Walking On a Dream. Please crank it up loud to get the full effect. Thank you.

Lights & Music.

Saturday, January 24, 2009

When I got a random free South by Southwest album download I found this lovely little song called Lights and Music by the band Cut Copy. I hear they're from Australia. While this song is a dance beat and may be considered gay techno, kind of like the weird song from HelloGoodbye, this one is fun! I like it! This isn't the original video, but it's all I could find that would allow posting from it. Also I just noticed it was posted on one of my favorite blogs. So I guess great minds think alike. Enjoy.

The World Is On Fire, Sarah McLachlan

Friday, August 22, 2008

This is one of my favorite songs because of it's message. When I first watched the video 2-3 years ago, I was extremely motivated because of it's powerful message as well. Please watch it.

Here are the lyrics:

Hearts are worn in these dark ages
Youre not alone in these stories pages
The light has fallen amongst the living and the dying
And Ill try to hold it in Yeah Ill try to hold it in

CHORUS:
The worlds on fire its more then I can handle
Ill tap into the water try and bring my share
Try to bring more, more then I can handle
Bring it to the table Bring what I am able

I watch the heavens but I find no calling
Something I can do to change whats coming
Stay close to me while the skys falling
I dont wanna be left alone dont wanna be alone

Chorus

Hearts break hearts mend love still hurts
Visions clash planes crash still theres talk of
saving souls still colds closing in on us

We part the veil on our killer sun
Stray from the straight line on this short run
The more we take the less we become
The fortune of one man means less for some

Chorus
